Older Spanish homes may have masonry, while Talega, Marblehead Coastal and other newer tracts use factory-built or gas fireplaces. Both share the ocean air, so one house needs crown work and the other needs a chase cover that resists rust. Occasional Santa Anas reach the coast and push gusts across hillside homes, while rain keeps to November through March. Out to sea runs a long fault zone, the Newport-Inglewood and Rose Canyon, but no named earthquake has had its center in the city.
