Brentwood Chimneys, Checked From the Cap Down
Ask for a Brentwood Roof Check
Send your name, number and street. We call back with a Brentwood day and ask whether the chimney is brick or a metal chase.
Brentwood ZIP Codes We Visit
Give us the street when you call. In a coastal ZIP, the roof check gives more time to rust on the cap and flashing.

Learn MoreWhat the roof check finds in Brentwood
Brentwood is a short drive up San Vicente from Santa Monica, and its houses often have two or three fireplaces. We look at every flue on the roof, not only the one the family lights, and the rust note lists each cap on its own line so you can see which one is going first. The Getty Fire in October 2019 started beside the 405 and burned into the Brentwood hills. Canyon lots here see dry fall wind and less salt than the beach, so the roof check leans toward the spark arrestor, the crown, and the flashing where a re-roof may have left a gap.
The Houses
On our Brentwood visits: traditional and Spanish Colonial houses south of Sunset, ranch houses in Crestwood Hills, and larger homes up Mandeville Canyon with more than one flue.
On the Roof
Each cap and its spark arrestor, the crowns on multi-flue stacks, and the flashing where a re-roof may not have been tied back into the chimney properly.
Which Metal
Brentwood sees less salt than the beach, so the choice of metal is less about rust and more about wind and embers. A heavy stainless cap with a secure screen is the usual answer.

Brentwood visits often share a day with Brentwood Glen, Brentwood Park, Crestwood Hills.
