Learn MoreWhat the roof check finds in Orange County
Older tract and historic homes fill much of north county, such as those in Old Towne and Floral Park. Homes are split about evenly between detached and attached, so a county chimney could be old brick or a metal flue on a shared roof. Around 42 miles of coast give beach cities salt and marine layer while inland cities warm up. Chino Hills and La Habra both shook north county in the past two decades, and inland the Whittier and Elsinore faults add to the list.
The Houses
On our Orange County visits: older north county tracts, Old Towne and Floral Park history, coastal condos, newer planned housing.
On the Roof
Near the coast, rust on every metal part; in north county, crowns and joints on older brick; in newer homes, chase covers.
Which Metal
Beach cities call for 316 stainless on caps and chase covers, while inland homes usually do well with a standard stainless.
Same Day, Nearby
Orange County visits often share a day with Mission Viejo, Anaheim, Ladera Ranch.
